Inside Joycean Dublin - A Digital Resource PDF Print E-mail

Inside Joycean Dublin is a joint project being developed by TCD and RTÉ in collaboration with Noho, the National Library of Ireland, UCD, Digital Repository of Ireland, DERI, James Joyce Centre, National Archives, Dublin City Libraries and with governmental, enterprise and funding Partners. We are developing a web-enabled digital resource, built on TCD’s Metropolis 3D-model of Dublin, which will facilitate access to and augment the digital archives associated with Dublin at the time, e.g., Joyce’s texts, the 1901 and 1911 censuses, local directories and visual and curated assets relevant to the historic and cultural narrative.

Wingwatch PDF Print E-mail

WingWatch is an obstacle detection and collision warning system aimed at allowing large vehicles such as aircraft to manoeuvre safely. It is based on patented technology using sensors in the aircraft fuselage and associated robotics software to automatically detect obstacles and warn the pilots of potential collisions. The project will develop a platform technology in vehicle manoeuvring applicable to a range of vehicles. [Further Info]

Captavatar: Using principles of human multisensory perception to endow virtual agents with maximum social appeal PDF Print E-mail

Funded by Science Foundation Ireland, this is a collaborative project between the Multisensory Cognition Group and GV2, the aim of which is to apply principles of human perceptual processing to endow virtual agents with maximum social appeal. By identifying preferred features and their multisensory combinations (measured through behavioural and brain responses) the research will then simulate these features in virtual agents, and create a ‘morphable’ social human. The effectiveness of the research will be demonstrated in the areas of games and entertainment (as specified by our collaboration with Intel and Disney Research), and compelling applications for education and health-care.

Perceptually Optimised Rendering for Interactive 3D Visualisation PDF Print E-mail

Funded by Science Foundation Ireland [URL] Research Frontiers 2008 grant, this project addresses the problem of interactive/real-time visualization of highly complex dynamic 3D geometric data, including but not limited to high-resolution volumetric data, highly tessellated surface meshes or point-clouds obtained from 3D scanners. In particular, we are concerned with the issue of visualizing temporally variant dynamic data whilst it undergoes change.
