About

meI am co-founder and CTO of a new startup developing solutions for next generation game production.  I'm also currently an adjunct Senior Lecturer in Computer Science in Trinity College Dublin, working one day per week. I am also the founder and co-director of the new Master's Programme in Interactive Entertainment Technology and am a member of the graphics & vision research group, the GV2 Group. I rejoined the School of Computer Science and Statistics (in Sept 2005) after a 6 year leave of absence during which time I co-founded Havok and was CEO and then CTO. Havok is the leading developer of realtime physics and animation middleware for the game and movie industries. In 2006 I acted as chair of the Havok advisory board, and also acted as a technical consultant to the company. I am no longer affiliated with Havok. I currently act as a consultant for various companies and govt. agencies including membership of the Technical Advisory Board of Movidia , an Irish company developing solutions for mobile media and was previously a board member of Dyoptyka, an Irish startup exploring the use of dynamic options, from 2006 to 2008. I serve on the the committee of the Irish Chapter of the IGDA. My research interests are in real-time rendering and animation as well as global illumination techniques. Prior to completing my Phd entitled "Wavefront tracking for global illumination solutions" I developed mgraf and mgraf2, a 3D finite element results visualisation tool, for Hitachi Dublin Labs and Hitachi Central Research Labs in Tokyo. Earlier still I used to write computer games on the Commodore 64!
